The situation in May 2020: The number of infections in the USA 🇺🇸 continued to raise. Further hotspots developed in Russia 🇷🇺 as well as various countries of South America, such as Brazil 🇧🇷, Chile 🇨🇱, Peru 🇵🇪, and Ecuador 🇪🇨. May 2020 starts with 3.2M COVID-19 infections reported worldwide, which developed to to more than 5.8M reported end of May. This is an increase by more than 80% in one month. Moreover, the number of people reported as cured increased from about 1M to more than 2.4M, i.e. an increase by a factor of almost 2.5x.

Dr.-Ing. Matthieu-P. Schapranow is Leader of the Working Group "In-Memory Computing for Digital Health" and Scientific Manager Digital Health Innovations at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI). He is a valued member of the Platform Learning Systems and contributes to the Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM) and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health. Dr.-Ing. Schapranow holds a PhD as well as the MSc and BSc degrees in Software Engineering. He was named as one of the top Elite Researchers in Life Sciences in 2016 and one of Germany's Top 10 Junior Scientists in 2015. Furthermore, he was honored with the Personalized Medicine Convention Award 2015, the European Life Science Award in 2014, and the Innovation Award of the German Capital Region in 2012. Together with Prof. Dr. Plattner, he published the textbook "High-Performance In-Memory Genome Data Analysis" in 2013.
